Our Club
Philosophy
York Soccer Club is a competitive developmental club. As part of that we desire to encourage your child to push beyond their comfort zone to help them achieve their maximum potential. When it comes to playing time for matches we do not adopt a “win at all costs” mentality. All kids will play every game, however that won’t translate to equal playing time. We will strive to balance playing time with our overall vision to develop the players and also field a competitive team. Playing times will vary game to game based on the opponent and our tactical needs. Given the club's desire to allow for players to pursue other interests, and therefore limit practice to twice per week, the expectation is that all players will prioritize participating in their respective weekly YSC practice.
Why Choose York Soccer Club?
DEVELOPMENT - CONFIDENCE - LEADERSHIP - TEAMWORK - FUN
At York Soccer Club, we believe youth soccer should be a powerful blend of competitive development and pure fun.
Here's why many families have made the decision to join YSC:
Development: Our experienced coaches are committed to nurturing your child's maximum potential, pushing them beyond their comfort zone while instilling valuable life lessons learned through the beautiful game. From a first Saturday morning touch on the ball at age four to a competitive league match at fourteen, York Soccer Club is built around meeting players exactly where they are. The Early Development Program introduces the game's fundamentals to kids in grades K–2 through short, focused 50-minute sessions — dribbling, passing, and just getting comfortable on a field. As players grow into Travel Soccer at seven and beyond, that foundation turns into real skill-building: twice-weekly practices, league competition and coaching that treats every age group as a step in a longer athletic journey rather than a standalone season.
Confidence: Nothing builds a young athlete's confidence like showing up to something they've practiced and watching it work in a real game. YSC gives every player, from a five-year-old chasing their first soccer ball to a fourteen-year-old anchoring a Travel roster, a structure where small wins compound. EDP players walk away with a jersey and a ball of their own — tangible proof they're part of something. Travel players earn their confidence on the field through weekly practice and get to test themselves against teams from across Southern Maine and Seacoast New Hampshire, learning that confidence isn't given, it's built one rep at a time.
Leadership: Leadership at YSC starts before players even realize they're learning it. Older Travel players often find themselves setting the tone for teammates during practice, while York High School players regularly volunteer alongside EDP coaches, giving nine- and ten-year-olds a glimpse of what leadership on a soccer field actually looks like. And because the club itself is entirely parent-volunteer run — coaches, program coordinators, board members — kids grow up watching the adults around them lead by example, not by title. That model, repeated season after season, quietly teaches players as much about leadership as any drill could.
Teamwork: Soccer is teamwork by design, and YSC leans into that from the very first EDP session. Four- and five-year-olds learn to share the ball and cheer for a teammate's first goal before they learn much else. By the time players reach Travel age, that instinct has matured into something more demanding: understanding a position, trusting a teammate's run, and knowing a loss or a win belongs to the whole team, not one player. Weekly practices and weekend league games give kids ages 8 to 14 constant, low-stakes reps at the thing that matters most in sports and in life — working well with other people.
Fun: Underneath every drill and every scoreline, York Soccer Club exists because soccer is supposed to be fun. EDP is deliberately built around games and Saturday-morning energy, not pressure — a first experience with the sport that a five-year-old actually looks forward to. That spirit doesn't disappear as players move into Travel Soccer; it just grows up alongside them, showing up in the rivalry with a Seacoast team, the ride home after a close win, or a pre-season camp evening with friends. At every age from four to fourteen, YSC's programs are built by parents who remember that a kid who's having fun is a kid who keeps playing.
Choose York Soccer Club if you're looking for a club where your child can thrive, develop their skills, build lasting friendships, and cultivate a genuine love for soccer in a supportive and expertly guided environment.
